Background

What happens if we develop simple social technologies for ourselves? What do we learn about our social needs and can it help us to take back the control?

This project started as a research project of four Master Digital Design students. When students Pamela, Wendy, Veronika and Jasper found themselves stuck at home due to Corona, they started experimenting with social technologies. This experience was so valuable to them that they developed this platform to make it available to more people.

Purpose

What makes exploring the topic of social needs and technology so relevant?

The term ‘social pattern’ refers to way in which the need for social contact and solitude alternate from person to person.

We believe that when used mindfully, technology, specifically social robotics, can help in regaining this balance.

By creating, open, modular solutions, we can all share and support each other in creating the perfect bot for our specific needs.

‘Technology hugely influences our ability to keep this balance. Unfortunately, technology is often so complicated that we can't seem to take any control over this influence’
